All Elite Wrestling / shopAEW
A Revolutionary upgrade from Magento to Shopify Plus
Objective
A Revolutionary upgrade from Magento to Shopify Plus

All Elite Wrestling is the second largest pro wresting organization in the world. AEW partnered with Symmetry Commerce to manage the end-to-end migration of shopAEW’s ecommerce operations from a limited and outdated Magento platform to Shopify Plus. Launched in time to support sales stemming from their major pay per view event, Revolution, the migration included the ability to unify and streamline global storefronts into a single ecommerce experience, enable upselling and cross-selling capabilities, auction events, and expand into international fulfillment - unlocking significant revenue growth and a modern fan shopping experience.

Impacts
10,000+ Products Migrated
100,000+ Customers Migrated
70,000+ Orders Migrated
Transformation
A Modernized Fan Shopping Experience
The new site has been redesigned to give a more modernized appearance for existing branding, as well as significant site speed, upselling, and customer retention improvement. A major overhaul of the Roster Page was completely custom built with full up-to-date wrestler status and faction information, with search and filter capability. Years of legacy data was migrated, including 100,000+ customers, 10,000+ product SKUs, and 70,000+ historical orders. Shipping integrations were configured with ShipStation, along with Judge.me, Smile.io, Auction Today, Langify, and Gorgias for customer support.

Challenges
Poor Site Performance and Instability

The existing Magento site suffers from sluggish loading speeds, with load times taking up to four and a half to five seconds. The site has completely crashed during high-traffic events—such as an exclusive action figure drop where 2,000 people tried to check out at once.

Frustrating Search and Checkout Experiences

The current search feature struggles to correctly route customers, making it difficult for fans to navigate search results or easily locate specific wrestler collections using associated terms or nicknames.

Product Clutter and "Analysis Paralysis"

The store is bloated with roughly 6,000 products, with some individual wrestlers having hundreds of items attached to their names. This overwhelming volume of unorganized products creates "analysis paralysis" for shoppers and actively decreases conversion rates.

Results
Substantial Site Speed and Infrastructure Upgrades The site leverages Shopify's robust infrastructure to seamlessly handle high-traffic flash sales and exclusive merchandise drops. The platform can support up to 50,000 checkouts per minute and utilizes an automated "tar pit" system to trap and reroute malicious bots during high-demand product releases.
Unified Global Selling through Shopify Markets Instead of maintaining fragmented domestic and international websites, all operations were put into a single, consolidated Shopify backend. By utilizing Shopify Markets, the site will dynamically reskin itself to display local currencies, languages, and relevant landing pages based on the user's IP address.
Modernized Marketing and Revenue Growth Tactics The new site will introduce critical "E-commerce 101" features to capture massive amounts of previously lost revenue, such as: Upselling/Cross-selling, targeted marketing, and customer loyalty perks.
